Biography
Clare Thomas, (b. Lisbon Portugal,) is a British-Canadian artist living on the traditional lands of the lək̓ʷəŋən speaking peoples, Victoria, BC, Canada. She uses a place-based, multi-disciplinary approach to investigate personal loss and environmental change.
Thomas has an MA in Art and Environment, Falmouth University, UK. She is co-founder of two long running Victoria BC-based collectives: BOXCARSIX (2016-2024) and DreamCityCollab (2020-present). She has attended residencies in Sicily, Berlin and Cornwall, UK as well as arc.hive artist centre and Caetani Centre, both in BC .
Her work has been shown at Two Rivers Gallery Prince George, Tapir Gallery Berlin, The Poly Falmouth and University of Cambridge, UK and various artist run centres on Vancouver Island. Publications include Uppercase magazine and the book Craftivism, published by Arsenal Pulp Press in Vancouver. This year her work on plastic ocean debris will be featured in issue 28 of Dark Mountain magazine.
